Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition that can affect how a woman’s ovaries work. There are 3 main features of PCOS:
Excess androgens – when there are excessive male hormones being produced in your body. This leads to physical symptoms acne, unwanted male-pattern hair growth (chin, nipples and chest), male pattern baldness and mood swings
Polycystic ovaries –the ovaries become enlarged and contain many fluid-filled sacs (follicles) that surround the eggs.
Irregular periods and infertility – or no period at all, irregular spotting. You may also experience a menstrual cycle in which ovulation, or the release of an egg from the ovaries, does not occur.
